Electronics and Communication Engineering

About the Department

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), established in 1981, and is one of the premier departments of Vasavi College of Engineering, committed to excellence in teaching, research, innovation, and industry-oriented education. Teir-1 Accredited by NBA and supported by highly qualified faculty, the department prepares graduates for careers in VLSI, Embedded Systems, Artificial Intelligence, Wireless Communications, Signal Processing, IoT, and Semiconductor Technologies. The department offers an Honors pathway in System-on-Chip (SoC) Design for academically motivated students interested in advanced semiconductor technologies. The program provides in-depth knowledge of modern chip design methodologies through specialized coursework, advanced laboratories, industry interaction, and research-oriented projects.

Under the leadership of Dr. E. Sreenivasa Rao, Professor and Head of the Department, the faculty have successfully executed several sponsored Research & Development (R&D) and consultancy projects funded by prestigious organizations, including the Department of Science and Technology (DST), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Centre for Advanced Systems (CAS)-DRDO, Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL), Research Centre Imarat (RCI), Digilogic Systems Pvt. Ltd., LightSpeed Photonics Pvt. Ltd., and other leading government and industry partners.

The department has established a modern laboratory ecosystem that closely aligns with current industry practices and technological advancements. Laboratories are equipped with industry-standard hardware and software platforms, enabling students to gain practical experience in VLSI Design, Embedded Systems, Wireless Communication, IoT, AI, FPGA, and Signal Processing. The labs emphasize experiential learning through design-oriented experiments, mini-projects, industry-sponsored projects, and research activities, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for professional engineering roles. The curriculum integrates professional engineering software throughout the learning process, enabling students to develop industry-relevant design and simulation skills. Students learn complete design workflows using the same tools employed by leading semiconductor and electronics companies.

To address emerging industry demands, the department offers specialized elective courses in rapidly evolving technology domains. Students can customize their academic pathway by choosing electives aligned with their career aspirations in semiconductor design, embedded intelligence, quantum technologies, and automotive electronics.

Artificial Intelligence has been systematically integrated across the ECE curriculum to prepare students for next-generation intelligent electronic systems. AI concepts are incorporated into core and elective courses, enabling students to apply machine learning techniques in communication, embedded systems, VLSI, signal processing, and IoT applications. Recognizing the importance of programming proficiency, the department promotes continuous coding practice through nationally and internationally recognized coding platforms such as Hacker Ranker, CodeChef, VS Code etc.,. Students are encouraged to participate in coding contests, hackathons, and problem-solving competitions to strengthen analytical thinking, hardware and software development skills.

The department fosters technical excellence and innovation through domain-specific student clubs that provide a collaborative platform for experiential learning beyond the classroom. These clubs organize workshops, coding challenges, design competitions, expert talks, hackathons, technical quizzes, and industry interactions, enabling students to develop technical expertise, leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. The Department fosters professional growth and technical competence through its vibrant IEEE Student Branch, IETE Students' Forum, and Institution of Engineers (India) [IE(I)] Student Chapter. The Department regularly organizes Project Expos and Innovation Showcases to provide students with a platform to demonstrate their technical creativity, design capabilities, and problem-solving skills. Students present innovative projects, prototypes, and research outcomes to industry experts, academicians, alumni, and peers, receiving valuable feedback and exposure.

Over the past five years, the Department has consistently achieved excellent placement outcomes, with students securing rewarding career opportunities and competitive salary packages in leading multinational corporations, semiconductor companies, core electronics industries, and IT organizations. Our graduates have been placed in reputed organizations such as Qualcomm, AMD, Synopsys, Oracle, IBM, Rohde & Schwarz, MosChip Technologies, VEDA IIT, Vaaluka Solutions, UTS, Constelli Signals Pvt. Ltd., ITC Ltd., TCS, Infosys, Accenture, Cognizant, Tech Mahindra, Capgemini, LTIMindtree, Zeta, and several other prominent core electronics and technology companies.
